Nesting Instinct. Just like our feathered and four-legged friends, humans also have the need to ready their “nests” prior to childbirth. For some, it is subtle while for others, it is… “an unusual burst of manic energy plays itself out in behavior that is dramatic, sometimes irrational, and often humorous (at least, to those observing it) - cleaning every crevice of the nursery with a toothbrush for example”
For me, this came out in the form of manic energy out of nowhere. The 7th month got me feeling extra tired for weeks on end, as sleeping the straight through the night became a luxury. The nesting instinct started when I entered the last week of the 7th month and I was ordered to work from home. I suddenly felt energized and light every morning. That was when I started to list down everything that needs to be purchased and ready for baby’s arrival.
The very first thing I did was purchase the baby sling. Since early in the pregnancy, I have been wanting to purchase one for our baby. I didn’t want to use the typical baby carrier. The only problem was that baby slings were not available in Dubai. It was only recently that I discovered Dubai Babies was selling it. What made me
was that they accept Paypal payment! Finally, I can use the money I earned from blogging and use it to purchase stuff for our baby. Service is amazing! I got the sling delivered in the office the day after! It was wrapped in a Dubai Babies paper bag tied with a nice baby pink & blue ribbon. I will definitely be buying more stuff from there. It’s encouraging me to do more paid blogs so that I can do more shopping… like some Green to Grow baby bottles absolutely PBA-free!
I put all the “hand-me-downs” clothes from Diyel in the wash. I washed the new stuff that MIL sent from the Philippines (lampin, white tie-up tops which I love, hat, baby booties, etc.). I ironed them and folded them. Yesterday, we added some hooded towels & bibs to the lot.
And as you know, we were hunting for the “perfect” stroller as part of this nesting thing. After the further frustrations with this, hubby and I went to Baby Shop in Karama last night. The moment we got there, I had to take the quick bee-line to the loo. Hubby in the mean time was checking out this stroller in gorgeous pink & grey colour (our fave combo). It was love at first sight. The sales rep was showing us all its features and we were
more and more. For the first time, I was actually excited to own the stroller and have baby strolling in it!!! :pacute:. So that ended our stroller hunt with such happy faces and an even happier wallet! It had all the features we wanted: lightweight at 5.2kg, easy one-hand-fold, parent facing feature, big storage basket, can be laid flat, washable seat and in beautiful pink & grey!!! The fact that it costs 1/3rd of our previous options is just a major plus!
Bait talaga ni Lord!!!
Hubby couldn’t wait to put the stroller together, so today after my blood test this morning, hubby took the stroller from the car and assembled it. I was so excited, I showed it to Mami. Even she loved the colour! She also loved how easy it is to handle it and of course, all the features I showed her.
It’s a bit more bulky than the others when folded but since it is so lightweight, I didn’t mind anymore as I can easily carry it now what more after I give birth. Also, the one-hand and no-brainer one push folding is what really got me! I guess if ever I have to travel with our baby on my own, I would be so happy that it will only take me seconds to get the stroller in the boot and back to baby! Finally, that is off the list! We can now purchase a car seat that will be good from newborn till our baby is all grown up. Very practical and good value for money!
Nesting continues with still a few things on our checklist. Actually, we are not buying too much now. Majority of it we are leaving until our baby arrives. So that the expenses will be spread to not just 1 month. We are only purchasing those that are very important right now. Furthermore, based on some connections, Mothercare will be having a sale by the end of this month so we are keeping a lot of purchases for that time. Love it that hubby is so practical with money because if it’s just upto me… sheesh! I would be buying things left and right.
How about you… are preparing for something right now?
