the truth about the trip

Some of you had no idea about our trip or that we even left the country. Well, we had our reasons to prefer to keep it in private. With some, we got caught in the hot seat so we had to spill the beans. For those who were not informed, please do not feel bad. We really intended it to be some kind of a secret.

Well, now that we have returned from our ‘emergency leave’ I guess it is ok to talk about it and maybe even bring some light as to why we suddenly jetted outta here.

Honestly, I really just didn’t want to unnecessarily alarm anyone or make a big deal out of it.

Anyway here goes, hubby & I decided to go to Philippines mainly to get a second opinion. My doctor in Dubai insisted that it is best to undergo surgery to remove a cyst as it may be preventing us from conceiving. The cyst measures 3cm only. The surgery would cost around AED15,000 (approx. $5,000). Mami was firm about not having any surgery done here. Plus, I do trust doctors in Philippines more than those here. I have previous cases like my ‘pneumonia incident’ to prove that!

We were actually suppose to leave as soon as we decided - on 27th March. We wanted to make the most of the holidays during that time but we completely forgot that it is the peak time for flights to Philippines. It is graduation season so lots of Pinoys are rushing home during that time. We struggled quite a bit finding the right flight at the right price. The most expensive Economy seats I was quoted was AED4,600!!! Sheesh! We got lucky that someone backed up and gave way for a Singapore airline flight for two at only AED2,600 each. The only catch was that we leave on a Tuesday and return on a Thursday. Normally, we would go for weekend flights to take advantage of the weekend as additional days on leave. We had no choice but to get it already. The sharp pains on my lower abs were getting too frequent already. As much as I didn’t want to worry, of course, I did.

So we were off. I had mixed feelings. I was excited because it’s the first time in almost a year that hubby & I are taking a break from Dubai life. The last time we did, it was for our wedding and Gosh! that was ever so stressful and hectic that I totally needed a vacation to recover from that one! A vacation is no ‘real’ vacation if I don’t leave the country. hehehe.

It was a long flight. We were suppose to meet up with Yevka in Singapore during our 5 hour layover there but since she was suddenly shipped to Dubai, we had to make the most of our time roaming around Terminal 2 & 3 of Singapore airport. Well, we were too exhausted from the ‘night flight’. There was this spoiled kid that just wailed and wailed us all awake!!! After the long layover, in our Singapore-Manila flight I was mostly asleep. I was nauseous with the smell of food that I just had to sleep it off or else. Yuck! That meant I didn’t get to eat dinner or anything at all during that flight. That was a major sign that really got me thinking.

When we arrived in Manila, we got caught in traffic on the way to Bulacan. My goodness was tummy was hurting so much from hunger. It was like there was a sharp knife piercing my lower stomach. I got so weak with hunger that I laid my head on hubby’s lap all the way from NLEX to Malolos. I only got to eat at past 7pm. Thank goodness it was yummy Andok’s Lechon Manok, otherwise, I dunno if I would eat so much.

We slept early as we were scheduled to go to UST Hospital with Tina first thing the next morning.

I was anxious that morning but I totally kept it to myself. Of course, anything could happen that day. I just kept praying that it will all go well.

At the Doctor’s, I explained everything to her and she did the normal examination. She said,”it’s an insult to suggest surgery for a cyst with the size of 3cm. It should just be observed. Surgery is required only when it is 5cm or more.” During my explanation of my peiod lapses she said,”You might be pregnant.” I didn’t know what to say because I didn’t want to give hubby or I false hopes. I wanted it to be a concrete statement than a speculation. I liked her! Tina’s doctor I mean. She was really nice. She told us stories the whole time so I really felt at ease while she was examining me with hubby & Tina in the same room.

LMP I gave was wrong. I only checked my phone after. :)I was sent for some scanning. Tina & hubby had to wait outside. I had to give a brief explanation of why I was there to the doctor there (who was with an intern I think). Then she said to me,”You’re pregnant! See that’s your baby’s heart beating.” I was stunned. I didn’t know what to say. They did the scanning and printing of the scans. While I was dressing up, I was smiling to myself… in disbelief…in utter happiness.

While I was waiting for the nurse to type the report, I couldn’t contain myself anymore and had to go out and tell hubby about it. Even he couldn’t digest it immediately but he was so ecstatic as well. So was Tina. We even joked, “Si Tina lang pala hinihintay natin eh.” (We’re only waiting for Tina.)

Tina wanted us to wait till we get back in Dubai before we tell anyone… BUT We simply couldn’t contain ourselves!!! We were just so excited!!! Good thing the internet was down so we only got to SMS my family.

Since I had some spotting from all stress & travel, I was told to take lotsa rest and take meds. So all I did in Bulacan was rest, sleep, eat and enjoy kwentuhan (conversations) with Ariel’s family. Absolute VACATION! What best way to start a pregnancy?! Eat fresh and yummy food where air is fresh and life is laid back!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! congratsssss!!! i know i congratulated you many times! but i am just so happy for the both of you!

anyhow, i experienced the same thing. during my pregnancy i had a cyst. i had pains from my lower abdomen. i was so worried that it could be something really bad. when i went to the hospital to get that checked, my doctor said not to be alarmed. the cyst will stand as his food–to get nutrients from. i was relieved! *AAAALLELLUUUUIA!!!* though, there are times na masakit; but its normal. most pregnancies daw nagkakaroon non.

ako din, before i found out i was pregnant masuka suka ako sa amoy ng pagkain, specifically chinese food (kahit lagi kong kinakain yon nuon). we had take out that afternoon. OMG, grabe talaga! then naisip ko kaagad na bumili ng pregnancy test. and TADA!!!!! hahahaha!

so no worries. simula na ang lahat ng bawal! ehehhehe! no sushi for you anymore ‘te. i hated it too. i love sushi and hindi ako makakain. kaya after 2 months na pagkapanganak ko, john and i went to 2 different japanese buffet in a week. LOL! my advice, drinks lots of water. take materna (not sure kung meron dyan sa dubai non e).

i can’t wait to see your belly grow :)
