I’m having a Dr. House MD syndrome right now… well not he mean-I-never-make-mistakes kind of attitude but more like wanting to bounce off ideas against people. Well, in this case, to whoever gets to read this.
Forgive my ignorance but yesterday I had a random thought that left me wondering… I was thinking how the internet have become such a vital part of our lives that sometimes I feel that it is already an addiction to want to always be “connected” and devour as much information as possible.
Are you an internet addict? Can you live 1 full day at least without connecting to the internet? Do you always hurry to get online? Do you connect to the internet via your phone? Do you do all your shopping online? Do you connect to everyone you know via email, chat or social networking sites only?
Have we become an information hog? Or more like, is this information Gluttony?
Now, should we seek an addiction treatment ? Should we go to some institution like an ……. ? Is there something like that ?
I wonder what that institution would be like…. hmmm…
I would imagine that the place would be far away from the city for sure. The institution would be made in the most primitive technology possible… maybe even manual. Hmmm… It will be surrounded by nature – mountains, trees, wild animals & a body of water. Nobody would be allowed to have mobile phones, laptops, mp3 players, etc.
I wonder what the treatments would be like…. hmmm… I imagine having a session where a group of you will be asked to find information on a subject and you can only use the library to find the information. Then, you are required to write your notes with your own handwriting. Photos will have to be cut & pasted manually. Hmmmm…
Oh… another idea of a treatment would be to task the « addicts » to make a purchase of a product via telephone or walking into a store. Hmmm…
Hmmm… would they have to deal with a Yoyo syndrome ? Like they get starved of information that when they get back to the real world they spend twice as much time online ? hmmm…
Ah well… I just thought I let my imagination run wild for a moment. But tell me… what do you think of this ?

HA! I would probably be made some sort of president of that institution. I come home and the first thing I do before I even take off my coat is push the ‘on’ button on my laptop!! It’s crazy!!

I am so guilty too! You know when stuck in traffic or simply waiting for something, I check my mail from my phone.
