Last week, I was actually surprised when my mom, a lay minister, said that this Wednesday will be Ash Wednesday.

This is the day that marks the beginning of Lent. It is 40 days before Easter Sunday (Sundays not counted). It is the time where Christians, especiallyRoman Catholics, hold special masses wherein churchgoers are marked on the forehead with a cross of ashes to remind us that We were created from dust and to dust we shall return. It is the time when we start the practice of abstinence and fasting to clean the soul for Lent.

Since hubby is on afternoon shift, we braved the freezing cold morning and attended the 6:15am mass. We were greeted in surprise by the traffic and full car parks around the church. There was also a 5:30am mass and we were expecting that we will be able to park very close to the church. “Definitely a lenten sacrifice”, I thought.
As usual, I love early morning masses. It just makes me feel so fresh and like I am ready for anything for the rest of the day. I wish I could do it more regularly…early morning masses I mean. :)
I was really groggy by the time we were driving back home. I rushed home to get a quick nap before I go to work.
SIDE KWENTO:
Last week Karen asked me to get a book for her from home and I came across The Purpose Driven Life. I figured, I was meant to find it just in time to take this challenge for 40 days (as mentioned in the book). What best time to do it than on Lent. I’m really happy that this will be a meaningful lent for me. God bless.
Oh another thing, it was funny that a certain someone SMSed me today. I wouldn’t have given in to the request if only it wasn’t Ash Wednesday! I could almost hear God, Forgive… for me. hihihi

I couldn’t believe it was so early either.
I have quite a few that I will be giving up and some that I will do specially for Lent. :)

Can I make a suggestion for lent? You may want to consider praying and reflecting on the liturgy of the hours along with about 100,000 other of us.
I find that the readings seem to fit into what challenges I face in my personal life with uncanny frequency.
